Integrating Custom Millwork into Architectural Signage: A Design-Build Approach

Summary: The addition of custom millwork blends the natural warmth of wood with the precision of architectural signage, creating a long-lasting showpiece that highlights the character of your environment.

When integrating millwork, the risk often lies in material lead times or architectural matching; our role as an expert partner is to minimize that risk through early involvement and technical competence. At Latitude Signage + Design, our design-build process encompassing planning, design, manufacturing, and installation ensures that these complex materials are integrated seamlessly to reduce long-term project risk.

Millwork Signage Project Examples

These projects used authentic wood such as walnut, teak, maple, and oak. The natural materials, combined with architectural signage pieces, provided a warm, pleasing signage solution, with a customized, unique look.

Community State Bank

Location: Ankeny, Iowa

The Approach: Working in lock step with the owner’s representative and the CSB marketing team, we wanted to create a show-stopping piece that felt upscale yet handcrafted.

The Result: A custom millwork logo for the main boardroom, fabricated to perfectly mirror the wood species and finish of the existing high-end boardroom furniture.

Hi-Plains PK-12 School Library

Location: Hi-Plains, Colorado

The Approach: This piece combines a whimsical tree with the architectural lettering of a Dr. Seuss quote.

The Result: This custom millwork tree brought a fun side to an informational piece directed to elementary-age students. It’s been nicknamed “The Dr. Seuss Tree.”

Northwest College

Location: Powell, Wyoming

The Approach: Our in-house custom millworker created stunning wood donor panels. Once each panel was finished, acrylic donor names were applied. On-site installation took place over two days leading up to the student center’s open house event.

The Result: Just after the event, our NWC clients reached out to us.“We had our Grand Opening yesterday and were happy to showcase our donor generosity with your signs!”

Sammons Financial Group

Location: West Des Moines, Iowa

The Approach: Custom millwork oak kiosks feature a routed logo and digital screens for announcements and corporate collateral. The material is lightweight enough that the electrical elements can be easily accessed for future maintenance.

The Result: The kiosk became a seamless extension of the facility’s existing woodwork rather than an architectural afterthought.

Food Bank for the Heartland

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

The Approach: A puzzle piece donor recognition display of high-pressure laminate wood mimics the natural texture and organic lines of the lobby’s feature wall. A millwork common backer created a continuous, hidden gap behind the entire piece to route wiring.

The Result: The wall blends texture, depth, and illumination by combining custom millwork with special elements including edge-lit acrylic, dimensional typography, and SEG fabric panels.
